Low-energy bulbs 'cause migraine'

"These bulbs do trigger migraines for some of our members - it's either the flickering, or the low intensity of the light, causing eye strain."
I think the report might be right. Sometimes I can notice that the fluorescent has a "flickering" effect and it is very uncomfortable.
The “flickering” might cause eyes tired and near-sighted.
However, it is come into conflict when we want to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions and minor the bad influence of low-energy bulbs.
When I read this kind of report, I always feel sad about my vision. I hate near-sighted.

Smoking link to hearing problems

“Teenagers who smoke, or whose mother smoked in pregnancy, are at higher risk of hearing problems and understanding what is being said, a US study says.”
It is an interesting discovery that may warn people not to smoke.
I always think smokers are a crowd of wired eccentrics; cigarettes are difficult to smell and the smoke will cause breathing difficult.
It is a kind of air pollution, but there is no rules ban against smoke strictly. It is very strange.
Even in the campus, there are many smokers “enjoy” it, not only workers but many teachers…
I hate the smoke strongly. It is really a poison…

Teaching good habits to last a lifetime

This is an opposite style against the McDonald example.
Children in some kindergartens eat healthy and their parents notice that it should care about kids’ habit and exercise.
This is a good phenomenon that there are more and more parents care about the obese problem. This is a good start.
If I have children one day, I would not let my baby get fat. There are many terrible diseases because of obese. I can’t image why the parents from the article which we read in class would think their baby is “sweat”. I think the photo in that article is very discussing.

Down's gene boost fights cancers

"The life expectancy of people with Down's has risen sharply, and now averages 60 years."
This sentence has some problems. Because the relation between life expectancy and cancer seem to be ignore, because person who has long lived than the other might has higher risk to get cancers than the other one.
"People with this genetic disorder have higher risk of leukemia, but seem to have lower risk of some other cancers"
It means the method is not good enough, so this news is meaningless for me.
"The study suggests that a gene which offers protection against the development of certain tumors may increase the risk of cancer spread.
I think it might be good news for modern technology. For my department, although we are discovering new therapies rather than prophylaxis, I think prophylaxis is more important than cure. Cancers are new disease for we modern human beings. I think this disease is produced by modern technology. Because the chemistry product and nuclear technique, the environment is filled with many dangerous molecules.

China's thriving Confucian schools

"Traditional culture has many advantages that cannot be learned by modern education."
i always like the culture of Chinese.
i think even in the nowadays Chinese culture are meaning for our Taiwanese.
we should be proud of us because our culture.
even the culture in Japan are mostly from Chinese.
not only Confucian school but Daoist school and Mohist school etc. are very wisdom and powerful.

"This is a material world, people want a higher standard of living and they are focused on material things, not spiritual ones."
this sentence say out the problems of modern people, i always think it is important for children learn the spirit of Confucian school like filial piety and morality.
it is very horrible that most people in Taiwan do not think they should show filial obedience or devotion for their parents.

(i am surprise that i can't find a word which express 'show the respect to their parent' )

the 'presidents'

the election of president are coming, and the atmosphere in our society is become nervous.
on TV, there are many commercial which show the abuse and tell the ills of the opposite candidate.
in this 'key' time, little mistake shouldn't be make.
each of candidate are very carefully for fear to make any trivial mistake.
in my opinion, each of candidate is good but we should choose a person who can lead us to better.
in Taiwan, the economic problem is the most important thing which should be solved.
if a person can make our economy improved and is a man of strict morality, i think he will be the best president for me.

(and in the present, i prefer 'Xie'^^)

Dark chocolate 'not so healthy

"Plain chocolate is naturally rich in flavanols, plant chemicals that are believed to protect the heart."
"The devil in the dark chocolate is the fat, sugar and calories it also contains.”
Although, chocolate may be harmful to our health, the sweat taste always appeal me to buy it again and again.
However, in this Christmas I already ate a lot of chocolate.
In my opinion, although chocolate may contain some harmful products, it can do some good for us.
In a report said, eat some sweat food like chocolate can induce our brain to produce a chemical element called endorphin which can make people to be happy. In a nutshell, there is nothing is always good. “Water can state a boat and it can cover the boat too.”
